Google Wave: Is it the latest “gotta have it” gizmo for your cutting edge website?

Google Wave is a personal communication and collaboration tool announced by Google at the 2009 Google I/O conference. It is a web-based service designed to merge e-mail, IM, wiki and social networking, boasting automated translation between 40 languages, as well as robust spell/grammar check and numerous extensions.

And you can extend it even further with the Google Wave APIs. Go to wave.google.com for a developer preview. Also, be sure to check out ninjaforge.com for Ninja Wave, a Joomla! extension for embedding Google Wave on your Joomla! website.

Ninja Forge is a subscription based Joomla! extension web site. They call themselves the “first and premier Open Source Extension Club”, providing cutting edge quality, trust, support, freedom and technology. Stian Didriksen is a 19-year-old developer, busy pushing the envelope – you may want to follow at @stipsan at his site, ninjaforge.com.

New Joomla Multi-sites, available in the Joomla Extension Directory, component now makes it easier for you to share your Joomla files and folders across totally independent websites.

One of the best benefits is in maintenance, as you only have to update files in one place. You can choose to have one common database, or two databases where one is the master and one is the slave, or you may have as many databases as websites.

Most user feedback seems to be positive, with one negative comment about the fact that the solution was accomplished by a modification of the Joomla core. Positive comments include the fact that the designer was willing to spend many hours to help users when the documentation was not able to, due to the broken English.

It’s also an easy tool to create a privacy policy. Regardless of the flavor of web content management system you employ, Compass Designs is always a worthwhile stop. A while back there was a discussion on Refund Policy, and how important they are. Another follow on discussion surrounded the similar need is a privacy policy. For a handy tool that generates a privacy policy for you, visit the Direct MARketing Association affiliated site, http://www.dmaresponsibility.org/PPG/#form. This tool asks some basic questions about your business and website, and then generates the privacy policy for you automatically.

Lovin’ what the folks at Arc did for Jelly Telly with Joomla CMS

One of the more popular presentations at the CMS Expo in Chicago was the show and tell by Arc Technology Group of the project they did for Jelly Telly. John Coonen tweeted about it this week, directing folks to jellytelly.com and arctg.com.Jellytelly was created by the same guy who created the wildly popular Veggie Tales children’s television to keep pace with the trends in technology that kids are following. JellyTelly is a commercial producer of family videos, made famous by the VeggieTales series that have been incredibly popular among families around the world for the past fifteen years – first on VHS and later on DVD. Arc Technology Group worked with them in a total revamp of their production and distribution process, and the resultant management system, built as Joomla extensions allows for a far deeper user experience than ever before. To provide an engaging user experience, the 3 or 4 minute videos are seamlessly built by background logic, ensuring a variation of content with every reload, and providing contextual links that pull the reader fur ther into the site. The component will be released in the near future – for general use – as a “video content manager for Joomla” component. We can expect it to be released under appropriate open source license by the end of 2009. If you have video management requirements on your Joomla site, this component will provide the content management that you need.
