DrupalCamp Fever continues

DrupalCamp Fever continues
Transcript From Episode CMSW2009-08-10

This past weekend, August 8 and 9, Drupal enthusiasts gathered in CA for DrupalCamp LA. You’ll recognize some of the same folks we talked to at DrupalCamp Colorado in June – Platinum sponsors pingVision and acquia, and Gold sponsor Volacci. Other than these familiar names, the session offerings look completely unique.

Another event shooting for 200+ attendees with lots of out of state registrants is DrupalCamp Atlanta. This is the inaugural event for DrupalCamp Atlanta, is sponsored by the Atlanta Drupal User Group and is a one-day event on September 19th. Registration is free and lunch is included, thanks to generous sponsorship by MediaCurrent interactive solutions, Matrix, acquia, MailChimp, autotrader.com, Volacci, a small orange, Microsoft and CMS Website Services. Get involved or register at drupalcampatlanta.com.

And don’t forget DrupalCon Paris on Sept 1-5. You can find CMSWeekly coverage of DrupalCamp Colorado in June under the events tab of SDRNews.com.

Drupalcamp Atlanta Fever is in the Air!

Mediacurrent: Drupalcamp Atlanta Fever is in the Air!
Transcript From Episode CMSW2009-08-10

I might also note Drupalcamp LA in progress this week and have a look at some of the speakers there that you interviewed in Colorado. Whenever a group organizes a conference for the first-time there are a lot of unknowns – the phrase “if you build it will they come” is always in the back of your mind.

However, I am happy to report that the response so far to the inaugural Drupalcamp Atlanta has been just awesome – as I write this, we have 158 attendees, 15 sessions, 9 sponsors, 2 keynote speakers with strong Drupal credentials, and a passionate organizing committee. We’re setting a goal of trying to sell out at 250, which is the max capacity the venue can adequately hold.

Shout out to JoomlaDay CapeTown

Shout out to JoomlaDay CapeTown
Transcript From Episode CMSW2009-08-17

Saturday, 8/15 was the day that enthusiastic Joomla fans in South Africa joined together for JoomlaDay Cape Town. The event was held at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology. If you missed it, JoomlaDay Johannesburg is coming up later in the year.

Joomla project member Ryan Ozimek traveled from the US to give the keynote and call to action in Africa, as well as a preview of Joomla 1.6.

JoomlaJunkie also attended and introduced their new template development framework for Joomla 1.5. The framework is called Morph, and promises to think for the user, one step ahead, knowing what you need. It has a Configurator that is like the dashboard in your car. By controlling every block of content on your website, you can build websites much faster and easier. Other highlights are the framework, providing the structure, themelets, the visual layer, and five powerful FX features.

ExpressionEngine Roadshow: The Future of Content Management Systems

EE Roadshow: The Future of Content Management Systems
Transcript From Episode CMSW2009-08-17

One thing that seems to be common across the CMS world is “community”, and ExpressionEngine has a devoted community too. After a sold out show in Vancouver in 2008, the EE Road Show moves to Seattle on Oct 2nd, 2009. Some sessions previewed by President Leslie Camacho in his blog are Jason Hudnutt explaining how to deploy ExpressionEngine with Git, Matt Perry telling how he improves EE performance for complex scenarios, and Ryan Ireland’s 10 ways to Improve Your EE Site Development.

There will be more sessions, as well as panel discussions, and of course the most valuable offering of this type of event – meeting the community and sharing ideas. President Camacho himself will present “The Future of Content Management Systems”, specifically about their 2.0 version and generally about the future of CMS and the opportunities it presents for CMS professionals.

Register at eeroadshow.com.

Our European listeners can experience more of the ExpressionEngine community at EECI 2009, the first European ExpressionEngine and CodeIgniter conference, Oct 22-23 in Leiden, Netherlands. Almost 100 companies are scheduled to attend, with interesting names such as Duoh!, Full Cream Milk and Design is Dead.
